Firefighters on the journey of life.
Today I would like to reflect on a friend who is soon to retire from one of the greatest ministries God has ever created, it's called firefighting. We all know firefighters give themselves totally to the care and love of humanity. How many times have we seen situations where people have fallen into a very sad moments in their lives such as an emergency, a heart attack, a suicide, a fatal accident killing a entire family.
One firefighter is about to retire, like all firefighters, I am sure the file cabinet in his heart and soul open up, and shows him everything that he was involved in throughout his career.
It is truly important that one should never take any of this lightly, to give of oneself to others, is truly the gospel way of living. Jesus himself asks us to lay down our lives for our friends, how many times does a firefighter rush to a scene knowing this could be one of those times that might frighten his inner core.
Today I have a wonderful friend a kind man a caring man a man who is very strong and extremely kind to so many will be retiring today. I personally give thanks for this awesome man of God.
And so before one leaves an awesome ministry an awesome job caring for others, we all give thanks to you my friend who offered yourself at the invitation of God
too serve his people in your capacity. You are an awesome gift to the city of Joliet. May God continue to bless you as you have blessed others in your awesome humble way. Peace and all good to you and to your family as you enjoy your retirement. May the blessing of Almighty God, the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit descend upon you and remain with you forever. Amen.
And may Saint Florian our patron saint continue to guide you and watch over you from all danger of fire and all other emergencies in life. Amen.
